It was so hard to see Vocal Point go this week. Both of their songs were just great, especially that Bobby Brown song with all that choreo, some of those boys can dance better than I can! Each and every one of the Vocal Point boys are so talented, kind and so much fun! Urban Method and vocal point were best buds. Every thursday before a taping we would sing for eachother so we could get some nerves out before the big day! In one of our little meet and greets we got to see another talent that Ross was hiding. Did you know that Ross can catch jelly beans in his mouth from all the way across the room? It was crazy!! All in all Vocal Point was a great addition to the show and we had to much fun with them on our sing-off journey.

Katie’s Thoughts- opera
Hey all! Being back in school has definitely been a little weird. I am a vocal major at the University of Denver and we are working on our fall opera, Faust. Being a musician I appreciate all kinds of music but I have to say opera is not my favorite. These next two weeks we have rehearsals late almost every night and and a lot of music to learn and memorize. I have to say though when we had our first rehearsal with the orchestra it was so cool! It is always amazing to sing with a full orchestra. We had a set load in day this past weekend and all of the vocal majors had to come in and build the huge Faust set. If you have never seen an opera I recommend you do so and experience one, the music is gorgeous and it takes a lot of hard work. If you are in the area come see Faust Nov. 3rd-6th at DU, lamont school of music!
Katie’s Thoughts- Gotta Love CO!

What’s up guys!! Hope you are all having a good Friday! It sure has been a gorgeous fall here in Colorado! I took this picture last weekend up in the mountains and just made me realize how lucky I am to live in such a gorgeous state. Coming from California I was a little apprehensive about moving from home to a brand new place but it is such a great place to live! My first winter here definitely took some gettin used to but with the right gear and some good snow boots I did just fine. If you have never been to Colorado I recommend that you do! There is so much to do here and so much to see and hey you might even run into Urban Method! Gotta love Colorado!!
Katie’s Thoughts- Cold Rooms!
Hey there!! Katie here from Urban Method. So during our sing-off journey we would have very long rehearsals in rooms around the hotel and the rooms were ALWAYS freezing!!! So we would bring blankets from our room and bundle up to stay warm! In the picture is the lovely Kim Dawson and Christopher Diaz. Thank god for Christopher and the rest of the music team. They were such great people to work with and always had great things to say. And even when they would come in and help they would be cold so we would always share some blanket.
Thank you for all your support and encouragement through this process, we appreciate it more thatn you know. Go UM!
Katie’s thoughts- When the Sun Goes Down
Hey all! It’s definitely been nice to have a bit of a vocal break but being a vocal major at school there isn’t too much resting!! Every Friday the vocal department meets and we have a “performance class” the students are scheduled to sing each week and today was my day! I sang a duet called “When the Sun Goes Down” from the musical “In the Heights.” It felt so good to perform this morning because I hadn’t in a little while. I realized this morning that singing with another person or group can sometimes be so much more impactful and emotional because you can feed off of each other’s energy. If I wasn’t in such a great group during the sing-off season I don’t think I could have made it. Of course there were some moments that Urban Method struggled and argued but as Troy pointed out in rehearsal one day “we are all on the same team at the end of the day” without their love and support it would have been very hard. Love you guys!

Katie’s Thoughts- Voice Lessons
Hey all! My voice teacher shared this video with me and I just about died!!
I have been taking voice lessons since 5th grade and not once have I ever had a teacher like this one although some people have said they have! For any of you that have taken voice lessons you know how crazy this would be to have a teacher like this. I love how she whips out a cigarette and starts smoking in the middle of the lesson. I’m sure this is what some people think of when they think of voice lessons however there are so many amazing teachers out there that have really made an impact on me.
If you have ever thought about taking private voice lessons or having your son or daughter take them, I would encourage you to do so because I know when I was younger they really gave me the courage to sing by myself confidently. And by starting them at such a young age really made me realize how much I love to sing. And as I grew older all the performing made me realize I want to pursue music as my career and chase after my dream. Thank you to all that have helped me improve my voice and given me the boost of confidence I needed in the toughest of times, including you urban method
Katie’s Thoughts- First 5k!
Hey all!! So today I ran my first ever 5k! It was called the Devil Dash and the proceeds went to First Descents which raises money for cancer. It was 30 degrees outside and was snowing on the way there. We were a little nervous because this 5k was a little different from others. It was 7 obstacles within the 3.1 miles, each one had a name, named after the 7 sins; Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Evny and Pride. We had to climb over tires, climb big wooden walls, climb muddy hills, hike up a huge hill, crawl through mud, walk through water. It was so crazy but so much fun and definitely worth it!! I did it with 6 of my friends. I am definitely glad I had them there we pushed eachother and encourged eachother during the tough obstacles and finished feeling so great!! When we finished we were SO muddy, I had never been that muddy in my life, but it was definitely worth it! We were all so freezing and decided to hose off before we made our way back home. It took about an hour to warm up with the heat blasting in the car. What an experience I tell ya! I think I might make this a tradition. It feels so great to accomplish something tough and especially with such a great group of people!!! Check out our picture after the race! Im in the middle!
On another note, can’t wait for Monday and see the other 6 groups compete!! See you all in the top 10!!
Katie’s Thoughts- GUMMY BEARS
On our sing-off journey Urban Method got addicted to gummy bears. I am usually a chocolate lover but for some reason I fell in love with gummy bears. I think my favorite colors were red and green. One week Liz, Kim, and I ate sooo many gummy bears that we felt a little sick after. We started bringing them to our nightly meetings and passed the bag around. Our love for gummy bears definitely died down a bit after our gummy bear binge but we still love them. Tony even noticed that I say “gummy bears” in a weird way….I am usually laughing, so he said that when I say “gummy bears”my top teeth just touch my bottom lip and I look silly. I think he might be right. Maybe if I try a chocolate covered gummy bear it will be the best treat ever. What color gummy bear is your favorite?
Katie’s Thoughts- Chicken and Waffles
Hey all!! So on our Sing-Off journey Urban Method stopped at Roscoe’s House of Chicken’ n Waffles. Before then I had never in my life had fried chicken and waffles in the same sitting. There were so many different options. You could get a leg, a thigh, a breast,…which one should I get?! I just wasn’t sure how this whole thing worked. So I went with a leg and a waffle. I got my food and it smelled delicious! But here came my next problem…do you eat the chicken and waffle together? With syrup on both? Or do you eat them separately? I just didn’t know. I started eating them separately but Kim corrected me and said “No you are supposed to eat them together!” I wasn’t brave enough to try them together plus I was almost done. I have to say I am now a fan of chicken’ n waffles but next time I go I will definitely try and eat them together. How do you eat your chicken’ n waffles??
