Urban Method at the Paramount

Posted by steighne On February - 27 - 2012

Urban Method Group ShotA quick thanks to all of those who helped us pack the house at the Paramount Theater last night in Denver. We had a chance to unveil an original song, some cool new tricks, and rock the songs you came to love from the show. Make sure you tag yourself on the Facebook pic Tony took on stage!

So what’s next?

Now it’s time to put it all together. We’re going to hit the studio and write. That’s right, original music. We’ll be putting music videos together, creating new and exciting content, and building OUR show. The plan is to have that done by summer time (2012) and then hit the road.

Until then…

thank you so much. Our friends, our family, and our newest supporters….we couldn’t do this without you!

Much love.

Urban Method at The Beverly Hilton

Posted by steighne On February - 20 - 2012

A little recap on the show…

So, we get to the Beverly Hilton (thank you Arnold, Jane, and Judy for the kind greeting and transport) and head to the restaurant for a little lunch. We’re eating among the celebs gathered there for the Grammys and after finishing up, we head back to our rooms. As we’re heading up, we notice a bunch of security guards up to something…little did we know that Whitney Houston had just passed away right upstairs! Incredible to be in the vicinity of such a momentous and sad occasion in music.

The hotel was buzzing with the news and that night, the cameras, paparazzi, and some of the most famous musicians around filed through the doors of the hotel. We thought about traveling around the city of Hollywood but found ourselves drinking at the bar watching the A-listers see and be seen.

The next morning we enjoyed a little breakfast in the rooms and some fantastic weather as we were led up to their outdoor patio where we performed for the Hilton’s VIPs. We finished up and enjoyed food and drinks in the beautiful epicenter of the Grammys.

A quick escort to the airport and a short flight home—great trip and a huge thanks to Kieran for bringing us in for the event.

Just Plain Happy

What’s up, Urban Methoders?! What a whirlwind it has been the last couple of weeks. I want to thank all of you for supporting us, and I assure you that you have not heard the last of Urban Method! We’ve got so much more in store for you! The Sing-Off was an amazing ride. We met so many awesome people, and had a very unique opportunity to share what we do with millions of viewers. I know, I know. It’s a rough life we lead, eh? That’s why I’ve got nothing but smiles going on. I mean, I’ve been performing music professionally for several years, but it’s nice to sit back and be grateful that I get to do this for a living. The rat race is stressful at times, but I wouldn’t want to do anything else. And it’s because of fans like you that I will continue to do it. Look out world, we’ve only just begun!

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite performances by one of the greatest entertainers of all time, in commemoration of his birthday. Here is Mr. Sammy Davis, Jr. Happy Thursday, everyone!

Ain’t Misbehavin

Posted by KimDawson On January - 2 - 2012

Happy Thursday, Urban Method folks! It  seems so long since we’ve talked! I’m so glad to be back home in Colorado and really working on what we have coming next for you all! But now, for a little music history.

On this day in 1943, jazz piano great Fats Waller died an untimely death from pneumonia. The first time I ever knew of Fats was in the movie Stormy Weather, in which he played a jazz club owner and performer, and performed his hit “Ain’t Misbehavin.” I always thought of him just as that funny man who raised his eyebrows a lot. Through the years, I discovered that he was an incredible piano player and composer, and set the standard for many pianists who came after him. And beyond that, he was a great entertainer. He could just play, but he would always add little witty quips into his performances. He made his playing look effortless, and he never seemed to take himself too seriously. He was a much sought after accompanist for many vocalists at the time, and remains one of my favorite musicians to this day. Here’s to you, Fats! See you on the other side!

Lotus Flower Bomb (Freestyle)

Posted by MykeCharles On January - 2 - 2012

Sup tho,

Today is the first day of Myke Charles Mondays! A lot of people were saying they are going to miss seeing and hearing from me every Monday since The Sing-Off is over, so I decided to release something for my supporters every Monday until my mixtape drops in January.

Here we are. For this first Monday I’m releasing a short video of me doing a freestyle track over Wale ft. Miguel’s “Lotus Flower Bomb”. My inspiration for the verse was how a woman (or parts of a woman) can be personified through a flower so I tried using word play and extended metaphor in the verse. Shout out to Wale and Miguel for killing the original. Hope y’all dig it. Look for me in the sky. Stay up.

CO’s pretty boy,

Oh, the Weather Outside is…

Posted by KimDawson On January - 2 - 2012

weather! Happy Friday, everyone! It’s Kim Dawson here with another vocal health tip. As I sit in my bed laid down with some little bug I must have gotten from one of my students, I am reminded of one thing. This time of year, there is an abundance of many things, namely, germs! They abound, and people get so worried with other things that they forget to take care of themselves. Don’t forget, folks! Wash your hands often, and make sure to stay hydrated! And most of all, bundle up! We like to think that we can handle all changes in the weather. Don’t be proud. Wear a hat to keep your body warm. And if it’s cold out, wear a coat that will keep you warm, not just a little jacket because you think it’s cute, or because you want to convince yourself that it’s not that bad out. Also, wear a scarf. Keep that throat protected from the elements! Be smart! Take care of your voice, and it will take care of you! Have a great day!

Katie’s Thoughts- Vocal Point

Posted by KatieTurley On November - 16 - 2011

It was so hard to see Vocal Point go this week. Both of their songs were just great, especially that Bobby Brown song with all that choreo, some of those boys can dance better than I can! Each and every one of the Vocal Point boys are so talented, kind and so much fun! Urban Method and vocal point were best buds. Every thursday before a taping we would sing for eachother so we could get some nerves out before the big day! In one of our little meet and greets we got to see another talent that Ross was hiding. Did you know that Ross can catch jelly beans in his mouth from all the way across the room? It was crazy!! All in all Vocal Point was a great addition to the show and we had to much fun with them on our sing-off journey.
