A quick thanks to all of those who helped us pack the house at the Paramount Theater last night in Denver. We had a chance to unveil an original song, some cool new tricks, and rock the songs you came to love from the show. Make sure you tag yourself on the Facebook pic Tony took on stage!
So what’s next?
Now it’s time to put it all together. We’re going to hit the studio and write. That’s right, original music. We’ll be putting music videos together, creating new and exciting content, and building OUR show. The plan is to have that done by summer time (2012) and then hit the road.
Until then…
thank you so much. Our friends, our family, and our newest supporters….we couldn’t do this without you!
How’d you like it?! We made the top 3 and now we need your votes. You can help us become the champions of The Sing-Off. The show is in it’s 3rd season and we’ve seen Nota and Committed win it all. Now, vote for Urban Method in 3 ways…
Everyone in Urban Method lives and breathes music. Of course, we all love a cappella, but one of the things that I think makes our group so awesome is that we are all deeply immersed in music of many kinds. From Broadway to funk to classical, someone in our group is passionate about just about any genre you can think of. My passion is producing electronic pop music, and I’ve been working away, creating original material using my laptop, keyboard, a mic, and a midi controller. It takes a loooong long time to go from start to finish when I’m doing everything from building beats to playing a synth line and singing, but OH MY GOSH it is the most amazing feeling when it’s done.
I showed a song I was working on called “Take Me Down” to Myke when it was still in the early stages and asked him if he might want to rap on it, and he wrote a rap for it in like five minutes. Myke is crazy! Then Tony heard about our project and offered to do some production/mixing/mastering work on the song to make it sound all sparkly and gorgeous. So this song is truly a collaborative effort made possible by Urban Method. And it’s also pretty exciting to think that we can build a repertoire of original songs with Urban Method in the future….
I am just so grateful to be surrounded by a group of people that not only loves music, but also loves collaborating and sharing their musical gifts and passions with each other. We use our collective skills and drive to come up with original arrangements on The Sing Off, but we also share ideas and love to support and collaborate on each other’s other musical endeavors.
Check out “Take Me Down”, and let me know what you think! I’m just so happy I got to make this song with my awesome UM friends.
Hey Urban Method folks today was a crazy day for a cappella! First I see that Urban Method has been mentioned on IMDB. That is the Internet Movie Database if you don’t know, now you know! (Biggie Smalls) Take a look. They said that we KILLED the performance!! WHAT!!!! Take a look.

Then I was watching a Football Life – Walter Payton. AMAZING!! and then this commercial came on.
A cappella is everywhere! Isn’t that great! I hope you all can appreciate what is going on here! Our music a cappella music has made it to the main stream! That is amazing!! See you on Monday! Oh and if you have not told your friends to like Urban Method. Please do. We need as much support as we can get as we go through this Sing Off thing!
“At this juncture on the Sing-Off we’ve been living in a hotel for 5 weeks. It’s been an interesting experience to say the least. When all of these corridors begin to blend together and harbor your emotions, you begin to disconnect from the outside world and lose touch with aspects of your life that were once important. If these walls could talk…During these five week I have been so focused on The Sing-Off that I haven’t been able to write any of my own music. The pressure of the competition hasn’t allowed me to channel any energy into anything but living and breathing The Sing-Off. Until now…”
I wrote this song during my time in the hotel that I called home during my Sing-Off experience. It’s a hip-hop song that documents the nostalgia and unease I begin to feel living in a hotel. These emotions are manifested through a past and current (or what was current) relationship. When I write songs I give you my life and experiences through a very honest and raw scope. This is Hotel Confessions. Enjoy.
As I performed on the show in Urban Method as a singer, I was always yearning to be on the other side of the mixer. It was odd for me to be singing again. With that said, let me fill you in on the production side of TSO3!
First, the stage mix and microphones. We used Sennheiser 5000 series mics which enabled the crew to use 48 wireless channels at once. They’re about $2500 a piece and compete with the Shure UHF-R KSM9. They’re awesome for normal vocals. Our monitors were run on an M7CL Yamaha digital mixer through 12 monitors under the grates of the stage, as side fills in the “box” walls, and flown. With a large stage, it could be hard to hear, but Andre the monitor engineer gave us exactly what we wanted.
Next, the front of house:
We had a JBL VerTec Line Array and subs under the audience. We had a hard time feeling the subs since they were under the bleachers not under the stage. We were mixed on a Yamaha PM5D. Although this is usually the most important part of a production, actually it’s not… The most important feed is the recording feed to the TV truck outside the soundstage. That is where the show is tracked and mixed later for airing. It takes the mix engineers and video production crew about 6 weeks to mix and edit the show.
Hey all!! So today I ran my first ever 5k! It was called the Devil Dash and the proceeds went to First Descents which raises money for cancer. It was 30 degrees outside and was snowing on the way there. We were a little nervous because this 5k was a little different from others. It was 7 obstacles within the 3.1 miles, each one had a name, named after the 7 sins; Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Evny and Pride. We had to climb over tires, climb big wooden walls, climb muddy hills, hike up a huge hill, crawl through mud, walk through water. It was so crazy but so much fun and definitely worth it!! I did it with 6 of my friends. I am definitely glad I had them there we pushed eachother and encourged eachother during the tough obstacles and finished feeling so great!! When we finished we were SO muddy, I had never been that muddy in my life, but it was definitely worth it! We were all so freezing and decided to hose off before we made our way back home. It took about an hour to warm up with the heat blasting in the car. What an experience I tell ya! I think I might make this a tradition. It feels so great to accomplish something tough and especially with such a great group of people!!! Check out our picture after the race! Im in the middle!
On another note, can’t wait for Monday and see the other 6 groups compete!! See you all in the top 10!!
Sorry for the skipped day again. I know excuses…excuses.
We made it past the 2nd round! That meant a late night arranging session for our third episode.
Cool thing is that the health tip for both days is, wait for it….
SLEEP #10: Yes, who would ever think that having enough sleep would mean increased brain power? If you don’t get enough sleep you don’t give enough time for your brain to “learn” or shift information from short term to long term memory.
SLEEP #11: We are all trying to keep fit out here for the cameras. After calorie counting, the most important tool for maintaining or losing weight is sleep. The less sleep you have the less your body processes the enzymes that hold on to fat (survival stuff).
So the lesson of the day is that sleep is most definitely underrated.
